Africa-Press – Cape verde. From March 21st until January 2026, the MpD will hold the Democratic Party Meetings. According to the party’s vice-president, Luís Tavares, these meetings aim to listen to the population so that, together, solutions can be found for the challenges that the country faces.
Information given to the press, at a press conference held this morning at the party headquarters.
“We will also invite people from civil society so that we can listen, so that we can build new solutions (…), we want there to be a great deal of citizen participation in this debate that is civic, that is democratic, so that we can, together with the populations, design new solutions for the challenges that Cape Verde faces”, he said.
For Luís Tavares, discussing democracy also implies seeing how citizens’ rights are guaranteed and respected.
“In particular, the right to health, the right to education, and to decent and dignified employment. Freedom of expression, of the press, of association and of active participation in political life are essential for strengthening citizenship and for building a plural, cohesive State that promotes dialogue, inclusion and social justice,” he explained.
Tavares recognizes that it is necessary to adapt policies and the way of governing to the country’s reality.
“We can say that we are on the right track, but we need to adapt our policies and our way of governing to the reality of our country. It is really an exercise in listening to the people and building new solutions. The MPD has always been a party of change, of great transformations (…) listening to everyone and everything, and from this consultation we build new solutions for the challenges that Cape Verde has ahead”, he stressed.
The Democratic Party Meeting, MpD, begins this Friday, March 21, where the theme of freedom, democracy and good governance will be debated. The purpose is for this cycle of debates to be monthly and take place on all islands of the archipelago.
