Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Movement for Democracy (MpD) considers that the country has achieved considerable gains in terms of health. The party considers that the country has complied with WHO health guidelines, that is, having a health structure within a maximum distance of 30 minutes from the population.

Representative Vanusa Barbosa spoke to the press today, on the sidelines of the parliamentary day, which is scheduled to begin this Wednesday. This time the debate will be with the Prime Minister under the theme “Health and Development”.

“There was remodeling, restructuring of several Health Centers, construction from scratch of several health centers, hospitals, health stations, all of this to provide answers and to be able to comply with what the WHO guides, which is that we have a health structure with a maximum of 30 minutes from the population”, stated the deputy.

Barbosa adds that the country still has some challenges, in terms of health, to be resolved, but believes that “this is the path to be taken”.

“Of these challenges, we must take into account not only exogenous factors, which are directly linked to our geographic location and insularity, but also others, which translate into changes in the epidemiological profile of our population, which demands a There is a strong need to define new prevention strategies and continuously reinforce primary health care, so that the entire population has access to this service in a timely manner”.

With the declaration of 2024 as the year of Mental Health, Vanusa guarantees that it will allow this topic to be brought to public debate.

“Having the Government of Cape Verde declared 2024 as the Year of Mental Health, we want to take this topic to the public sphere, for a broad debate, but also with concrete actions, with an impact on the population, creating conditions for the debate on this topic must be done in an uncomplex way and, above all, that there is increasing access to care”, he concluded.
