MpD is a party that continues to have internal cohesion” – spokesperson for the National Directorate

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The spokesperson for the National Directorate of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power) assured today, in Mindelo, that the party continues to have internal cohesion, despite the divergent voices considered “normal” for a democratic environment.

MpD is a party that continues to have internal cohesion” – spokesperson for the National Directorate Miguel Rosa gave this guarantee to the press, on the sidelines of the meeting of the National Directorate of the MpD, held this Saturday in São Vicente, with the presence of President Ulisses Correia e Silva, members from all the islands and the diaspora, and having in discussion the activity plan and budget for 2024, the approval of the electoral regulations, approval of the regulations for choosing candidates, among other items.

Asked by journalists about the current climate in the party, the same source reaffirmed internal cohesion, although, he maintained, this does not mean that there are no divergent voices.

“In fact, the MpD is in itself a party, which, because it is democratic, which defends the principles of freedom and opposing opinions, dissent helps to fuel and dynamize the party. This is normal, it is natural in democracies and, especially, in a party that has this democratic rib”, he advocated.

Asked whether in São Vicente they will maintain Augusto Neves as candidate for mayor or whether another candidate will be chosen, Miguel Rosa asserted that at this moment, these scenarios do not arise, but rather the scenario of winning the local elections.

“The strategies have already been defined, the regulations are clear and can be consulted by everyone, but here the issue is not about the names, whether it will be Augusto, Miguel, Paula, Maria, that is not the most important thing, it should not be the most important thing in a party like MpD”, he maintained.

He highlighted, on the other hand, his party’s experience, “knowing how to govern” and that it will know how to choose candidates, who should be known by December.

Regarding their profile, he assured that they will be competent candidates, with proven experience and with the capacity to mobilize for MpD to continue to be the “largest local party” and recover the lost chambers. The Week with Lusa
