MpD leadership candidacy: Orlando Dias is not afraid of dissent within the party and says he has a lot of support

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Orlando Dias, pre-candidate for the leadership of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, opposition), reiterated today that his objective is to see it through to the end and does not fear dissent within the party caused by his decision. He even says he has a lot of silent support in the party.

Cited by Inforpress, the deputy elected by the MpD lists and member of the National Political Commission of this party, Orlando Dias has been a critical voice in relation to the governance of the country and, recently, when the prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, decreed a situation of economic and social emergency, went public saying that the first example should come from the Government.

Asked by Rádio de Cabo Verde if his position does not weaken the executive, he said no.

“The government should take these proposals and implement them. These are proposals that the population wants and the Government can correct, taking my proposals and implementing them”, he said, adding that, by doing so, Cape Verde “wins and the Government itself wins”.

Asked if these proposals could not have been made in their own forum, that is, at the party level, he revealed that they “have already been made several years ago”.

“I have been hitting this internally for a long time. It’s just that they’re not listening and so I had to come outside for people to hear the proposals we have to also put pressure on the Government and the MpD itself,” he said.

In his view, they are “useful proposals” for Cape Verde and which could “serve the MpD well”.

a lot of silent support

He guarantees that, at the moment, “there are many people from the MpD” who support him and that “there is a lot of silent support”, so he feels “safe” that he will have an “excellent result” internally, which will be for the “ good of the MpD and the militants”.

“We are going to give more voice to the militants, we are going to give the party back to the militants and we are going to deepen internal democracy”, promised the pre-candidate, concluding that the leader’s friend is the one who criticizes him frontally so that he can improve.

Orlando Dias is, to this date, the only one to express interest in the leadership of the MpD, in the direct ones that will precede the party’s Convention, scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.
