Africa-Press – Cape verde. The São Filipe municipal swimming pool opens next Sunday, the 19th, coinciding with the three-year term of office of the council team, led by president Nuías Silva.
The sports infrastructure located in Achada São Filipe next to the Simão Mendes Polidesportivo, municipal gymnasium and Armand Montrond Cultural Center includes a semi-Olympic swimming pool measuring 25 meters long, around ten meters wide, one meter and eighty deep and with five competition lines and a tank approximately six meters long by about three meters wide and one meter deep for learning and for children.
On the ground floor of the pool there is a store that occupies a total area of more than 34 square meters subdivided into multipurpose space, storage room and a bathroom that was the subject of a public tender for its lease in order to guarantee the greatest transparency as possible and give equal opportunities to all residents to compete for the operation of the store.
The construction of the municipal swimming pool represents an initial investment of 32 thousand contos, with 27 thousand contos for the execution of the works and five thousand for its equipment and it also has changing rooms, leisure spaces with a terrace and snack bar.
Its construction aims to project the sport of swimming on the island and in the Fogo/Brava region and is part of the municipal responsibility for creating conditions for learning and introducing swimming in the municipality.
The objective of having a municipal swimming pool is to explore the centrality of this sport, which could bring the island and the country many successes in the future.
This year the national swimming championship, organized by the Cape Verdean Swimming Federation, will take place in the city of São Filipe.
Initially scheduled for the first half of November, the test was postponed and will take place in the first days of December.
Related to swimming, the São Filipe council announces registration for the swimmer/lifeguard course in partnership with the Port Maritime Institute (IMP) which will take place from November 27th to December 9th, two days before an admission test will be held .
The entrance test includes swimming 100 meters freestyle in a maximum time of one minute and 50 seconds, swimming underwater for 20 seconds, swimming 25 meters in the supine position, picking up objects from a depth of two meters and covering a distance of 2,400 meters in a maximum time of 14 minutes.
