Africa-Press – Cape verde. Associação Académica do Mindelo, has just become National Club Football Champion, season 2021/2022, after beating Grupo Desportivo Palmeira by a ball to zero in the unprecedented final played, this afternoon, at Estádio Municipal Arsénio Ramos, in Sal King, Boa Vista.
With this victory, Académica do Mindelo becomes National Club Football Champion 33 years later. He scored 20 goals in the competition and scored in all the games played at his stadium.
Palmeira dominates in the first half
The first half ended with a goalless draw and was characterized by an intense game and with some rough starts from both sides, which, however, resulted in only one yellow card.
Palmeira was always on top of Académica do Mindelo with Piduca, Académica’s goalkeeper , having to intervene on two occasions to prevent Palmeira’s goal, namely at the end of the first half when he was even forced to apply himself to stop a treacherous shot from a Palmeira player who was going to score.
Tchubasco, Kanté, Hendrik and Latch were Palmeira’s outstanding players in the first half, while on the side of Académica do Mindelo, Tchukim did not live up to expectations.
Tchukim reappears in a balanced second half
In the first minutes of the second half there was a more balanced game, but with many stops. The goalkeepers practically didn’t have much work, although, around the 60th minute, Piduca, Académica’s goalkeeper, was forced to apply himself to stop a treacherous shot.
The situation seemed to be more complicated for Académica do Mindelo who, in the 72nd minute, saw one of their players, Valdir, being sent off for accumulating yellow cards.
However, against the flow of the game, behold, in the 76th minute, Tchukim, until now practically absent from the game, scores the first goal of Académica do Mindelo and the match, bringing to seven the number of goals scored in the National Football Championship, 2021/2022.
Duel of Champions: Maniche gets the better of Latch
With the victory of the São Vicentina team over Palmeira, Maniche, captain of Académica do Mindelo, got the better of Latch, former teammate at Mindelense and now captain of Palmeira.
Maniche thus goes on to add three national titles, the previous two being won by Mindelense while Latch is left with the two titles of National Football Champion achieved, also at the service of Mindelense.
Happy ending again for a São Vicentina team
Despite being an unprecedented final, this game between a team from São Vicente, Académica, and another from Sal, Palmeira, takes us back to a recent past, since, curiously, the last final of the National Football Championship, held in the 2018/2019 season, at the Marcelo Leitão Stadium, on the island of Sal, also involved a team from São Vicente,
Mindelense, who became champion, and another from Sal, Oásis.
Thus, the history of the clash between teams from Sal and São Vicente will be repeated, only this time, on a different stage, that is, on the island of Boa Vista, instead of the Marcelo Leitão Stadium, on the island of Sal.
