Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Boxing Championship begins today in Praia, bringing together 60 boxers from seven sports regions in an event that celebrates the unity and progress of the sport in Cape Verde.
The event, organized by the Cape Verdean Boxing Federation (FCB), promises three days of fighting, competitive spirit, and the appreciation of national talent.
In a statement to Inforpress, FCB president Manuel Monteiro stated that “everything is ready,” adding that the teams are currently setting up the ring.
He revealed that 60 boxers are participating this year, representing seven sports regions: Santo Antão Sul, São Vicente, Santiago Norte, Santiago Sul, Sal, Boavista, and Fogo.
He added that only the delegation from Fogo Island is not in the capital due to “the well-known inter-island transportation constraints.”
Despite this, Monteiro expressed confidence in the championship’s success, emphasizing that the expectation is to hold a great event, with more regions involved and a vibrant and engaged audience.
Finally, the president urged the public to show up and support the athletes with “pride, affection, and respect,” bringing with them the positive energy of the event.
“We want everyone to take home the message of unity, so that boxing continues to grow and make firm strides in the country,” concluded this newspaper’s source.
