National Defense Day: PR visits «under the sign of common good» Red Cross and malaria-free program

Africa-Press – Cape verde. This Monday, the President of the Republic marks National Defense Day (November 6) « under the sign of the Common Good », with visits, during the morning, to the various structures of the Cape Verde Red Cross, a of the institutions that have made a valuable contribution in the daily struggle to save lives, to bring protection and comfort to those most in need and to raise public health levels in the country. José Maria Neves also visits the Malaria-free Cape Verde Program, at the Ministry of Health, in the city of Praia.

« In the afternoon, the Head of State promotes a meeting with volunteers, providing a space to raise awareness and exchange experiences on the role of volunteering in the country’s development, with the theme of the experience of the United Nations System in this matter» , reads the statement sent to this reference digital diary.

According to the same source, with these initiatives, the Highest Magistrate of the Nation intends to take stock of the actions and challenges that these institutions face, in addition to highlighting the work carried out by public and private agents in defense of the Common Good, encouraging a culture of participation.

« In this way, the President of the Republic also does justice to the essence of the landmark date for the country and which dictated a paradigm shift in the way Cape Verdeans view the concept of National Defense, in light of the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic » , highlights the head of the State.

It should be remembered that the anniversary, made official through Resolution No. 14/2011, of March 7, transcended the concept of National Defense from the merely military sphere to encompass other threats, uniting the various social actors with the national Living Forces, around national causes common.

« At the time, which dates back to 2009, remember, the virus that causes Dengue was the unifying element that united the Nation around a greater cause. Throughout the history of the people of the islands, however, there have been several moments of crisis that reflect this need for consensus and the materialization of coordinated actions to face complex issues, as was, recently, the fight against the Covid Pandemic- 19 », made a point of highlighting the statement we were quoting.

This date aims, according to the same note, to raise awareness among the various actors and social segments – from public to private agents, institutions of religious action and social solidarity, NGOs, as well as individuals – to some of their responsibilities, duties and rights within the scope of National Defense, as a way of ensuring multifaceted interventions against different threats to Cape Verdean society.
