National women's football: Maísa da Luz, a "stunning" debut and award for top scorer of the competition

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Despite having only taken second place, the team from Sal, Llana, had a great championship, as the best scorer in the championship and number 10, the young Maísa Da Luz, says. The athlete scored six goals, winning the award for top scorer in the 2023 edition of the competition.

In an interview with Rádio de Cabo Verde, Maísa said that she started playing football as a child, did her training at Escola EFIZ but it was at Dorense that “she started to take everything more seriously” and now she made her debut in the national championship for the team of Llana, in his first season as an athlete of the runner-up national team.

“The first secret is to play for the team and with the intuition of winning. And of course when I score goals it feels even better. I’ve already scored six, but it’s all the result of the effort of the whole team”, underlined the athlete.

The dream of reaching the national team

Maísa says it is a dream that she has been feeding for a long time and hopes that the performance obtained in this national championship will open the door, perhaps, towards the national team.

“It’s a dream, I always thought I’d get there and I can’t hide my anxiety for one day being in the national team” he says.

Maísa is undoubtedly one of the great highlights of this championship and has certainly aroused curiosity among the public that has been marking their presence in the stands of Estádio Adérito Sena, in Mindelo.

The striker ended the competition as the top scorer, with six goals, five of which were scored in the last two matches, a hat-trick in the 3rd round against his former team Dorense, and a brace in the 4th round against Mindelense.

Camoca was the MVP of the final, Jacinta from Seven Stars was the best goalkeeper in the competition and Aícha from Mindelense was the best player in the national championship.

The national coach, Silvéria Nédio, has been watching the games of this National, taking into account the unprecedented entry of Cape Verde for the qualifiers of access to the CAN of Women’s Football. The first round, in September, will be against Liberia.
