The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Business Development, and Minister of Digital Economy, Olavo Correia is in the United States to attend the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which takes place in Washington. , from the 17th to the 23rd of April.
According to a press release, the meeting, which starts today, brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from member countries, executives from International Financial Institutions, the private sector, representatives of civil society organizations and academics.
The central objective is to debate issues of global economic importance, as well as specific themes that are part of the global economic agenda, at a time when the world is faced with the great crisis.
The event’s agenda also includes seminars, regional meetings, press conferences, among other events focused on the global economy, international development and the world’s financial system.
The Government of Cape Verde recognizes that this meeting in Washington is another opportunity to strengthen bilateral contacts with the country’s main development partners and establish new strategic partnerships.
“Private” matters on the table
On the sidelines of the meetings’ agenda, Olavo Correia will establish and deepen contacts with the World Bank, the IMF, among other partner entities, in this mission, which also aims to discuss a new program with the IMF, especially the new approach it should have with island countries. in terms of access to finance.
Among other matters, those present will address a new approach to public debt management and in this context, Olavo Correia will present to partners the challenges that the country faces and request engagement both in the issue of financing and in the technical support that will help the country in the implementation of policies and technical training, within the framework of public administration.
In this “mission”, the official is accompanied by the National Director of Planning, Gilson Pina, by the Director General of the Treasury, Soeli Santos, by the Director of the Prospective, Macroeconomic Monitoring and Statistics Service, Jailson Oliveira, and by a team from Banco de Cabo.
