Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ombudsman was available to support the Trade Union Association of Journalists of Cabo Verde (AJOC) in matters within the limits provided for by law, in the question of Article 113 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPP).

José Carlos Delgado expressed this availability in statements to the press in the City of Praia, at the end of a meeting he had with the AJOC’s management, following recent cases to indict journalists and the media they work.

“They put the question of the famous Article 113 and I said that I cannot intervene in cases that are in judges and the law is clear to all (…). As for the question of the unconstitutionality of Article 113, there are two paths can be followed and I am talking about matters within the limits provided for by law”, he said.

For José Carlos Delgado, the first way would be to send a request to the Ombudsman to activate the Constitutional Court or to ask the Ombudsman to make a recommendation to the National Assembly to amend Article 113, and one or another request must be “duly substantiated”.
