The Cape Verdean Ombudsman will be in Angola, from the 19th to the 22nd of this month, to take over the rotating presidency of the network of Ombudsmen of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP). José Carlos Delgado will also participate in the week of the ombudsman in Angola and in a series of conferences.
José Carlos Delgado will also take part in the meeting of the Network of Providers, of the CPLP Human Rights Commissions. In addition to the transfer of the presidency of the Cape Verde Network to Angola, the program also foresees a cycle of conferences on the constitutional order and the prerogatives of the Ombudsmen in the CPLP.
In the Angolan capital, the ombudsman will present the theme entitled “Violation of the fundamental rights of citizens in CPLP countries and the role of the Ombudsman”, moderated by the federal prosecutor for the rights of citizens of Brazil.
Speaking to Inforpress, he said it was an “extremely current” issue, given that the US State Department’s report on human rights covers the situation in all CPLP countries.
“It could be an opportunity to address the issue of the human rights situation in Guinea-Bissau”, he predicted.
Asked if he will meet with the Cape Verdean community based in Luanda, which his opinion would be “very useful”, he said that this time it will not be possible because the program for his stay in Angola is “very tight”.
