Order of Doctors calls for effective and equitable pre-hospital emergency service

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Medical Association defended, this Tuesday, 9, that the country should create, as soon as possible, an effective pre-hospital emergency service, so that adequate care in urgent or emergency situations is universal and equitable. . The alert comes after the death of teenager Djonny, who was evacuated from the island of Brava in precarious conditions, on August 1st.

In a statement, signed by Bastonário Danielson Veiga and released this Tuesday, 9, the order regretted what happened on Brava Island, a situation that, according to him, forces a deep and consequent reflection on the resources available in Cape Verde to face to serious and urgent situations.

Such reflection, he warned, must be done, not only on the conduct of health professionals, but also on the response that is programmed at the institutional level and on the means available.

“Health decisions must be guided by the specific needs of Cape Verde, taking into account human and financial resources and geographic characteristics, including demographics”, he warned.

emergency teams

In this sense, he argues that it is imperative to implement pre-hospital emergency medical teams (creation of teams to transport critically ill patients), as a crucial factor for patients in need of urgent treatment and rapid intervention.

“It is an urgent need for the country and its creation is absolutely necessary, so that adequate care is universal and equitable”, he underlined, adding that the lack of this mobility of medical assistance inevitably reflects on the results, with negative consequences, wrongly interpreted, sometimes, such as the failure of medical care.

Identification of all faults

As for the case of the teenager Djony, he says he wants to identify all the failures that occurred in the process, and not just in the inquiry into medical conduct, and that interventions be quickly planned to respond to needs and restore confidence in medical practice.

“Unfortunately, in serious and delicate situations, such as the one that happened, no error is admissible, be it conjunctural or structural. There must be the same resources and means so that professionals can make a difference, regardless of where the patient is,” he reiterated.

It should be remembered that this is not the first time that the aforementioned order has pronounced itself on the need to have pre-hospital care teams, so that seriously ill patients have the necessary care while still in the process of being transported to hospital services.
