Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV-opposition), Rui Semedo, said this Friday that the political force wants to be increasingly present in the search for real solutions for the country.
Rui Semedo was speaking to Inforpress, moments after the solemn opening session of the XVII congress of the party, which started in the city of Praia, where, in addition to the consecration of the leader, the election of the National Council, Political Commission and Commission is also on the agenda. Asked to indicate the main lines of the motion he will present, Semedo began by replying that there is one that has to do with the party, the ideas of which party they want and which party they want for the future.
“We want a party that is present, free, that cultivates democracy, that is useful, that is a school of citizenship, that creates conditions for greater participation, that actively participates in the national political debate, that actively contributes to alternative proposals for governance,” he said.
The PAICV militants also want, according to Rui Semedo, a party that is attentive to domestic and international social and political phenomena, in tune with Cape Verdeans in its objectives and ambitions, that leads the social process, that has winning proposals in society and that exercise its mandate to implement social transformation.
“We want to be in the sphere of political influence and execute the program we have for Cape Verde”, said the party official, also defending that the diaspora is an “extraordinary force” that Cape Verde has at its disposal.
“Cape Verdeans abroad have contributed to the development of Cape Verde. Cape Verde is what it is today, also largely the result of the investment that Cape Verdeans in the Diaspora make here, of the remittances they send, of the solidarity participation they make, but Cape Verde has even greater possibilities to take advantage of these resources that are ours. Diaspora”, he stressed.
For all these reasons, he defended the need to create possibilities, facilities and a favorable framework to mobilize participation and investment in our emigrant community.
The XVII PAICV congress follows the election of the new party president, which took place last December and aims to elect the other bodies, namely the National Council and, therefore, the National Commission of Jurisdiction and Inspection.
The National Council that is elected, in turn, will elect a new political commission and a new general secretariat.
