The national deputy and member of the PAICV National Council, Eveline Ramos, highlights the “ excellent ” work carried out by the Municipal Council of Tarrafal de Santiago, led by mayor José dos Reis. Exercising the right to political reply, Eveline emphasizes that this work is recognized by everyone, except the MpD and deputy Celso Ribeiro, who has not yet recovered from the heavy defeat he suffered in the 2020 local elections.
The Tambarina leader stressed that this does not matter because the municipality’s gains are known to everyone and the people of Tarrafalense are satisfied with the work that has been carried out by the municipal team led by José «Maika»dos Reis.
Eveline Ramos made this observation at a press conference held today in the city of Praia, having recalled that during the 28 years that the MpD was managing the Chamber, it placed the Municipality of Tarrafal in debt, which to this day the current team is paying the debts left by the previous executive.
“ It is the same MpD who, on the day of the inauguration of the new team led by José dos Reis, distributed 31 plots of land in Ponta de Atum to friends and former fan leaders, today accuses José dos Reis and his team of wasting resources public, intransparency, illegalities, but does not present any proof of this complaint. PAICV and José dos Reis have no lesson to learn from MpD in Tarrafal” , he recalled.
According to the deputy, the launch of these suspicions demonstrates the disorientation of the possible MpD candidate, Celso Ribeiro, who is currently undergoing an internal survey test for the possible position, in the 2024 municipal election. The allegations made are that the mayor travels and does not demonstrate results of governance.

Works carried out by the Chamber
The PAICV deputy lists a set of works carried out by the president of the Municipal Chamber of Tarrafal, to improve the living conditions of the population, with emphasis on the following:
1. Distribution of 500 plots of land, on a lease basis, for young people and women in Tarrafal and construction projects;
2. Construction of the Monte Iria Sports Plate (underway);
3. Construction of the Cabeça Carreira Multisports Center (underway);
4. The sports medicine center;
5. Construction of a bathroom and household connection to the public water network;
6. Delivery of fishing equipment and materials to fishermen and fishmongers;
7. Planting and distributing fruit trees in different locations in the municipality;
8. Creation of 9 thousand jobs, on a rotating basis, for young people from different locations;
9. Support in the rehabilitation of family housing;
10. Support for training and education with distribution of school kits and reduction in the price of school transport by 50%;
11. Health support;
12. Driver’s House and Bus Terminal;
13. Fisherman’s House;
14. Urban and Environmental Requalification of Achada Tenda, Rua de Horte in Chão Bom, Cuba de Ribeira da Prata, Chã de Capela -Monte Bode and Cabeça Carreira in solo Bom, Fazenda and Ponta Furna;
15. Rehabilitation of the Base Health Unit of Trás-os-Montes and Achada Longueira;
16. Support for families with income-generating activities.
These are the works, according to Eveline, that dignify the municipality and that the residents of Tarrafal recognize. But she adds that the path to inclusive development is long and complex.
“They say that the path is made by walking and President José dos Reis and his team have already started this journey. That’s why they want to count on everyone, especially people who love Tarrafal, so that together we can build a better future for the people of Tarrafal” , he highlighted.
The deputy also pointed out that the possible candidate, Celso Ribeiro, as a Tarrafal resident and deputy of the nation, should be the first defender of Tarrafal with his Government and not raise unfounded suspicions, which is nothing more than politicking, which calls into question the credibility and trust regained in the municipality.
Works blocked by the government
However, he asks Deputy Celso to intercede with the Government of Ulisses Correia e Silva to unblock the government works that are shelved and to find out what is going on, particularly with the following:
1. What was done with the local requalification project?
of Achada Baixo and Ponto de Atum, in which the competition was launched on the eve
of the local elections and today, three years later, they still haven’t started?
2. The asphalting of the Tarrafal – São Miguel road, for which the tender was launched at the beginning of 2020?
3. Where is the Municipal Day Care Center promised by the government and Home for
Elderly?
4. Where is the Port and floating marina of Tarrafal?
5. Tarrafal – Praia expressway?
6. Why is Tarrafal one of the municipalities whose Municipal Financing fund will not increase in 2024?
Lack of pressure from Celso to unblock the works and future of Tarrafal.
According to Eveline, the people of Tarrafal would like to know what the role of the MpD deputy has been in unlocking projects with their Government.
The Deputy reiterates that Tarrafal is breathing new air and justifies it by saying that businesspeople, partners and people from Tarrafal in the diaspora want to invest in the municipality and finance social projects for the municipality’s development.
He pointed out, on the other hand, that the challenges that Tarrafal has for the future are too much to face. Therefore, expect from the opposition in Tarrafal, a constructive attitude that enhances the municipality.
“ PAICV reaffirms all its confidence in the management and leadership of President José dos Reis and his team and asks them to continue focused on this task of inclusive development of the Municipality of Tarrafal” , concluded Eveline Ramos.
