PAICV draws the attention of the government and local authorities to the need to “think and build” the island

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the PAICV of Santo Antão, Elisa Pinheiro, drew the attention of the prime minister and the presidents of the municipal councils this Tuesday that “it is urgent to continue thinking and building” the island.

Santo Antão: PAICV draws the attention of the government and local authorities to the need to “think and build” the island.

Elisa Pinheiro, who was speaking during a press conference in the city of Ribeira Grande, warned, according to Inforpress, that the island’s future is at risk and the people of Santanton are left “completely compromised”, as the present is “ extremely difficult ” .

“ Unfortunately, in recent days we have seen the MpD in Santo Antão and in several other spaces and forums trying to justify the unjustifiable. With a rosary of beautiful words to try to prove to the people of Santanton that the MpD government has some work done on the island ”, he stressed.

However, according to Elisa Pinheiro, “ against facts not arguments ”, and in the lack of arguments, “ disrespect, disregard and lack of education ” stands out on the part of those who are governing and who do not want to hear the truth.

The president of the PAICV CPR also highlighted, continues the source of this newspaper, that in Santo Antão the “total absence ” of works, increased unemployment and hopelessness of a people, which according to her, from 2001 to 2015 (a period that coincides with PAICV governance) was accustomed to laying the groundwork and inaugurating major works.

“Unlike the current Government, which, having no results to present, reaches the ridiculous point of reopening works or laying second and third stones on those that cannot be started ”, he emphasized.

Therefore, according to Elisa Pinheiro, there is “ consensus ” among Santantonese people that PAICV is “ really ” the party that has contributed most to the island’s progress.

PAICV and works carried out in Santo Antão

According to the press release sent to Asemanaonline, the policy made a point of listing, on the other hand, the various works carried out, between 2001 and 2015, in São Antão, by the PAICV government.

In terms of road networks, he highlighted the Porto Novo/Janela Sul/Campo Redondo roads, in addition to negotiating financing for the construction of the Campo Redondo/Tarrafal road. He built the road from the 3rd to the 2nd Village of Alto Mira, the road junctions of Cidade das Pombas in Paul and Povoação in Ribeira Grande, as well as the Garça / Chã de Igreja road and the Ribeira Torre penetration route. He introduced asphalt in the construction of roads in S. Antão, putting the stamp of modernity that he wanted to introduce on the Island. He also recalled that PAICV opened tunnels in the construction of roads on the Island of S. Antão and carried out the 1st phase of the expansion of the Porto Novo Port and built the most modern maritime station in the country in that port.

Regarding other social infrastructures, Elisa Pinheiro highlighted the construction, in the same period, of the Central Única de Santo Antão and four housing blocks of the Casa para Todos Project (Ponta do Sol and Povoação da Ribeira Grande, Paul and Porto Novo), carrying out the dream of hundreds of Santanton families of having decent housing. She built the Liceus of Ra das Patas and Coculi and launched the works for the construction of the Liceu do Paul, reducing the distances that students traveled daily and the financial efforts of parents with school transport, thus contributing to increasing school performance.

In relation to agriculture, the regional leader of the largest opposition party in Santa Antão listed the construction of the Canto de Cagarra Dam, an important investment for the development of agriculture in that valley, as well as the underground Alto Mira Dam, a structuring investment for the promotion of agriculture in the lower part of the same valley. She added that PAICV built water pumping systems from Ra de Janela to Fajã de Janela, Fajã de Maurícia and Fontainha, with the aim of increasing agricultural development in these locations and improving the living conditions of farmers. This is without counting the Santo Antão Post-Harvest Treatment Center, to minimize the effects of the thousand-foot pest on the Island, «which unfortunately is behind closed doors, because the MpD is not even able to put into operation an infrastructure found to be ready and well equipped ».

PAICV ready to resume the island’s development process

Elisa Pinheiro highlighted that she mentioned only some of the infrastructures built in Santo Antão, from 2001 to 2015, not to mention the small works carried out by the PAICV Government in the most diverse locations. She made a point of highlighting that she did not include in this list the works of the Municipal Chambers, in the period in question, which were also of capital importance for the development of the island.

In view of all this, politics concludes that it is, today, consensual, among the people of Santo Antão, that the PAICV is really the Party that has contributed most to the progress of Santo Antão, thanks to the work carried out jointly with the populations of the Municipalities of Porto Novo , Ra Grande and Paul, who have greatly contributed to the development and modernization of Ilha das Montanhas.

« We challenge the MpD to also do its part. PAICV is ready to resume the development process of Santo Antão, whether at the municipal level or at the level of governance across the country », you warn Elisa Pinheiro, at a press conference held this Tuesday in Ribeira Grande de Santo Antão.
