The president of the PAICV Regional Political Commission in Santo Antão, Elisa Pinheiro, said, during the event that took place in the city of Porto Novo, that this party has the only option of “winning the next elections” in Cape Verde to “ save Santo Antão ”, which faces “ a sad and degrading ” social and economic situation.
“ PAICV has a moral duty to save Santo Antão. Therefore, we launch an appeal to join forces around the aim of saving this island from the precipice ”, noted Elisa Pinheiro, for whom this region is “ on the brink of the abyss, the result of complete abandonment ” by the municipal councils. and the Government.
For the regional leader of PAICV, Santo Antão is going through “ an extremely difficult social situation ”, marked by the “ precipitous drop ” of all social indicators on this island, where, in her view, the population’s quality of life has deteriorated.
The person in charge criticized the functioning of health services on the island, particularly in Porto Novo, where they have been “chaos” and asked for construction work to start on the Ribeira das Patas health center, the first stone of which was laid in June 2022 .
Elisa Pinheiro demanded “ better equipping ” of health structures in Santo Antão, with “ more equipment and human resources” and spoke about agriculture, demanding the operation of the island’s post-harvest center to mitigate the effects of the embargo imposed on agricultural products from Santo Antão, since 1984.
He also denounced the “ lack of employment ” in Santo Antão, especially in rural areas and recalled that “ the structuring promises ” of the Government towards Santo Antão are still to be fulfilled, seven years after the MpD came to power in Cape Verde.
For Elisa Pinheiro, these seven years of MpD power “ have been seven years of storm ”, which is why “ PAICV has a moral duty ” to reverse this situation and “save Santo Antão and Cape Verde ”.
The opening of the political year in Santo Antão, which was attended by the PAICV parliamentary group, which was on this island on decentralized days, was presided over by the president of PAICV, Rui Semedo, for whom this island “needs new leadership ” .
“Santo Antão is currently facing a leadership crisis. This island needs people who show the path of development, who defend, first and foremost, the interests of Santo Antão”, highlighted Rui Semedo, for whom, at this time, there is “no voice ” that defends the people of Santo Antão.
Therefore, the leader of PAICV understands that “ Santo Antão needs a new leadership ” that involves “ a new local power ”, believing that this party has “ capabilities ” to win the three municipal chambers in the 2024 municipal elections. with Inforpress
