Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), Rui Semedo, defended, this Sunday, in Santo Antão, the need to have “a national debate” on privatization in Cape Verde, “with the development of the country in mind.” ”.
Rui Semedo, who was speaking at the closing of the PAICV regional assembly on the island, underlined that the suggested debate would be in the sense of identifying the sector where the State should have a fundamental role and that would be excluded from the list of privatizations.
“It would be a discussion thinking about the country and its development”, advocated the PAICV president, advancing that, “in all countries, the State must define what is strategic and what cannot be privatized”.
divergence of thought
Rui Semedo said that the MpD Government has on its privatization list “more than 20 companies”, that is, “all companies in Cape Verde”, because it understands that “the State must get out of absolutely everything”, contrary to what thinks the PAICV.
In his view, the ruling party’s narrative that the PAICV has an “ideological block” in relation to the issue of privatization is intended to “block serious debate” on this matter.
gains have not happened
For this politician, privatization should bring gains to the country, bring resources, knowledge and investments, which, in his view, has not happened with the current government.
The PAICV president visited Santo Antão this weekend, where he participated in the regional assembly of this party, which served for the swearing in of the president of the regional political commission of this island, Elisa Pinheiro, and other regional bodies.
