Parental Accountability Campaign officially launched today

Africa-Press – Cape verde. SOS Cape Verde Villages launch today, World Children’s Day, the Campaign for Parental Responsibility. It aims to make the population aware of the problem in Cape Verde, with emphasis on parents and competent authorities.

The Campaign for Parental Responsibility in Cape Verde, according to Aldeias SOS, wants to make the population residing in Cape Verde and the diaspora aware of the need to exercise responsible parenting.

In this way, the institution wants to influence policies and practices conducive to the creation of a welcoming and protective family environment for children throughout the country.

More legal measures

In this sense, it urges the competent authorities to adopt legal measures that guarantee compliance with parental responsibility and, in the event of non-compliance, to hold the defaulters accountable.

“Due to its nature and complexity, and aiming to bring about consistent and lasting changes, this initiative is aimed at society in general and the Cape Verdean diaspora. However, for its effectiveness, particular attention will be given to parents, future parents, especially young people, parliamentarians, central and local government”, explains the same source, in a note sent to the media.

Three years

The campaign will last for three years, from the official launch, until November 20, 2024, throughout the national territory.

“It should also be noted that the intention is to allow minors to have affective and permanent contact with their parents, and to call both parents to exercise parental responsibilities over their children. Because the constant presence of parents in their children’s lives is fundamental for their balanced and healthy development”, the same source also underlines.

parental responsibility

It should be noted that Aldeias SOS also focus on the issue of single-parent families, especially headed by women, most of whom lack responsibility on the part of the parent who does not live with the child.

There is also a deficiency in the provision of food, by the same, with the woman being primarily responsible for the social and economic conditions of the child.
