Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean parliament today approved the suspension of the mandate of the nation’s deputy, Amadeu Oliveira, who was in preventive detention a year ago in the central prison of Ribeirinha, in São Vicente. António Monteiro, from UCID, left the room.

Three requests for suspension of mandate were voted on, all of which were approved by the majority of deputies.

O primeiro pedido, por requerimento da Procuradoria-geral da República, que corre trâmites no Tribunal da Praia, mereceu 38 votos favoráveis, 27 contra, 3 abstenções e 1 branco.

A second request, pending before the Barlavento Court of Appeal, received 39 votes in favour, 27 against and 3 abstentions.

The third, taking place at the Porto Novo Court, received 38 yes votes, 27 no, 3 abstentions and 1 blank.

Amadeu Oliveira had asked for the suspension requests to be dismissed, in all three criminal cases mentioned by the Attorney General’s Office.

Oliveira has been in preventive detention for a year, accused, among other crimes, of disturbing the normal functioning of a constitutional body, offense to a corporate body and a crime against the rule of law.
