Parliament: Linking the media’s economic and financial problems to self-censorship is disqualifying PM journalists

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, stated on Wednesday in Parliament that linking media’s economic and financial problems to self-censorship is to make a disqualification of the journalist role.

Ulisses Correia e Silva made these considerations in the debate on “Media, Democracy and Development”, after being questioned by the parliamentary leader of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party), Rui Semedo, about the State’s measures to create the conditions “so that there is no self-censorship” and ensure “a totally free press in Cabo Verde”.

According to the Prime Minister, when it is said that there is widespread self-censorship in Cabo Verde this assumes that journalists, in a general way, around 90 percent (%), are in a regime of self-censorship.

I ask if this is true, if it does not interfere with professional pride, the deontology and how the journalist itself see its profession to allow be censored”, said Ulisses Correia e Silva.
