Parliament: Proposal to amend the Electoral Code discussed in detail with the suspension of several articles

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The bill that makes the fifth alteration to the Electoral Code was discussed today in detail in the second ordinary session of April, with emphasis on the suspension of several articles.

In total there are 437 articles and during the morning period the deputies were debating voting procedures, the characteristics of the ballots and electronic voting, aspects that are included in the Electoral Code.

The deputies understood that during the discussion the system that currently exists in the code will be preserved and as progress is made the necessary changes will be made.

In this case, the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, clarified that in the next elections the current code will remain in the “contrary provisions” until, for example, “electronic voting is operationalized”, said Joana Rosa based on article 156.

Further observations were made during the parliamentary debate leading to the suspension of several articles to be considered later.

Likewise, several articles were approved with consensus among parliamentary subjects.

The discussion on the specifics of the proposed amendment to the Electoral Code will continue this afternoon, with around half of the articles still to be approved.
