Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Paul, António Aleixo Martins, considered this Sunday that the municipality has made “remarkable progress” in its development process, due to the dynamics undertaken by the municipality in partnership with the Government.
António Aleixo Martins, who was speaking during the solemn session commemorating the day of the municipality of Paul, said that the municipality is experiencing a new form of relationship with the central power.
This relationship, in his view, has made it possible to “improve a large part of the economic and social indicators”, and thus ascend to increasingly higher levels of development.
more resources
“Despite the findings of the conjuncture, as well as the internal reality, our feeling is of accomplishment, due to having managed to carry out a set of actions with the means that were at our disposal and that are being useful to the citizens”, scored.
The mayor also stressed that the regular transfer of more financial resources from the central government to the local government has allowed “more planning and certainty in the implementation of actions”, which have promoted the completion of a series of works and other achievements throughout the municipal territory. .
Challenges
However, he acknowledged, “more must continue to be done”, since, as he said, “enormous challenges still persist, increasingly demanding and qualified”.
“We have to overcome bureaucracy, to provide the new generations with a better quality of life. We are fully aware that the path is made by walking, but that, if we do it alone, the difficulties of the journey will sometimes become insurmountable obstacles ”, she claimed.
The solemn session also included the signing of a cooperation protocol between the municipal councils of Paul and Santa Cruz and a tribute to the presidents of the Municipal Chamber and Assembly.
PAICV contests
The honorees of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV – opposition) were not present and did not send a representative.
However, the leader of the PAICV bench, Nilton Delgado, contested the homage, saying that they did not know the names of the honorees and that the list was not presented to them either, “not even for knowledge, let alone to validate”.
Nilton Delgado clarified that the PAICV was not against the tribute, but considered that “the legal steps were not taken”, so the bench “is not reviewed and is not part of the tribute”.
