Paul: Municipal Assembly approves budget for 2025 estimated at more than 200 million escudos

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The activity plan was approved unanimously, with 13 votes, seven from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, the party that supports the municipal council), six from the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) and one from the Independent and Democratic Union of Cape Verde (UCID, opposition).

The budget, in turn, was also approved with 11 votes in favour, of which seven from the MpD, four from the PAICV and two abstentions, one from the PAICV and one from the UCID.

In statements to the press, the leader of the MpD bench, Bartolomeu Cruz, said that they voted in favour of the instruments because they understood that it was a “feasible and possible” plan and budget for the municipality of Paul.

“It is a budget that includes significant funds for various development sectors, which is why we voted in favour of the two management instruments”, he stressed.

In the PAICV bench, of the five elected representatives, four chose to vote in favour of the approval of the activity plan and budget, and the leader of the bench, Nilton Delgado, said that the vote in favour of these instruments reflects what they have always demanded, as elected municipal representatives of the opposition.

“Of course, we are still just waiting, and the municipal council itself has shown that the previous situation was not at all good and deserved a change, probably, regardless of the team”, he stressed.

According to Nilton Delgado, this vote in favour is also a vote of “confidence”, especially because, as he stated, they were under the impression that something would change.

Contrary to his bench, the elected municipal representative of the PAICV, Airton Dias, voted in favour of the activity plan and abstained on the budget.

According to the politician, this decision was made because the activity plan covers practically all sectors.

“As for the budget, I abstained because, in the last term, the assembly had authorized a loan of 78 thousand escudos, and today we found that, after all, the debt was 62 thousand escudos, leaving a difference of almost 16 thousand escudos, without justification”, he explained.

The UCID deputy, Jailson Brito, voted in favor of the activity plan and abstained on the budget.

He explained that he voted in favor of the plan because it was “ambitious”, but abstained on the budget because, in his opinion, within the framework of the plan there are still more than 100 workers in the budget with salaries of six thousand escudos.

“In this sense, I decided to abstain on the budget, because there must be a budget balance”, he stated.
