Africa-Press – Cape verde. Paulo Moreno, player of the national handball team and current captain of Benfica, in Portugal, made an assessment of Sweden’s participation in the World Cup and was honored to defend the country, while saying it was an “enormous pride” to see the Cape Verdeans “screaming” for the national team.
After Cape Verde’s historic participation in the handball world cup, in Sweden, Paulo Moreno exposed the emotions of Cape Verde’s participation in the competition. For the Benfica captain, playing in the World Cup is an “enormous feeling” of accomplishment and learning.
“In addition to being the second biggest competition, surpassed only by the Olympic Games, playing against the best players and best coaches is the solution to continue growing”, considered Paulo Moreno, quoted by the European Handball Federation.
“Honored”
The Eagles international says he is honored for having defended the national flag. “Representing a country is a feeling that cannot be taken away from anyone. It is an enormous source of pride to have a nation screaming for us”, said Moreno.
Thus, Cape Verde’s first victory in the competition came against Uruguay (33-25), which earned 3rd place in Group C and a place in the Main Round.
Aspects to improve
Cape Verde achieved a historic feat in the competition by qualifying for the Main Round of the World Cup for the first time, under the guidance of coach Ljubomir Obradovic (coach of Avanca), and the help of Paulo Moreno, center of Benfica.
“A high-performance athlete is never satisfied. I always want more and better. I’m proud of our campaign as our goal was to reach the main round, we had a great experience and we certainly did our best. However, many things still need to be improved”, he defended.
European League
After the World Cup, Paulo remains at the club of the eagles, where the European League follows at international level, in which Benfica, holder of the trophy, has great ambitions.
“Benfica is my home, one of the loves of my life. It’s an inexplicable feeling. I can’t find the ideal word to describe what it’s like to play for Benfica. I can’t imagine my life without handball and without Benfica. That’s why I managed to unite two great passions, it’s an indescribable feeling of accomplishment. It’s a lot of good things at the same time.”
Benfica, holders of the title, did not have the start of the group stage that they wanted, being ranked fourth in group A with two wins and four defeats. Paulo Moreno wants to recover places.
