Africa-Press – Cape verde. The chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of CV Interilhas, Jorge Maurício, defends the increase in the price of the boat ticket on the São Vicente-Porto Novo route, the busiest line in the country, as he considers the price of 800 escudos charged to be “ridiculous”. currently.
Jorge Maurício says that if the country wants quality transport, passengers need to pay for it.
It is in this sense that he argues that fares on the Mindelo-Porto Novo route should be updated due to the impacts of rising fuel prices, to prevent the situation from becoming “unbearable” for companies.
“Ridiculous price”
The company’s PCA considers the current price of 800 escudos on the Mindelo-Porto Novo line to be “ridiculous” and asks for an increase in the price of the trip.
“Paying 800 escudos to make the crossing is ridiculous, to say the least, because we have a tariff that is from 2012, not to mention the cargo tariff that is from 2006. If we look at accumulated inflation and the increase in fuel prices, we have always making updates. It is impossible to keep prices updated every 15 years, it is not a sustainable model”, he told Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV).
“State should bet on territorial cohesion”
In this sense, Jorge Maurício points out that there must be an effort on the part of the State to inject more resources into territorial cohesion and guarantee the lines where “there is no type of profitability”, but above all “always make” some adjustment in relation to the tariff.
In the case of the Mindelo-Porto Novo line, the price of 800 escudos remains the same, but it seems that this will not last for long.
