Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Silva, today expressed his ambition to make the city of Pedra Badejo the capital of electric mobility in Santiago Norte “and perhaps Cape Verde”.
“Right now, we have four taxis and more than 100 100 percent (%) electric “tuc-tuc” motorcycles, which means we have more than 100 people who are already sensitive, with experience and knowledge about electric mobility. Therefore, there are few municipalities in Cape Verde that have already achieved this goal”, Carlos Silva told Inforpress.
And taking into account that, according to him, this “eminently agricultural” municipality is at the forefront of electric mobility, he reinforced that the chamber will continue to focus on raising awareness among residents who work in the transport sector, encouraging them to invest in sustainable mobility, through the progressive replacement of internal combustion vehicles by electric vehicles.
“We are going to create incentives so that we can have, in addition to the four 100% electric taxis, electric cars for individuals in Santa Cruz”, he indicated, adding that the city council itself has a program for the acquisition of electric vehicles.
The mayor added that the municipality, which has 25 taxis, four of which are electric, in the near future will prioritize licenses for taxis, for those that are 100% electric.
During the interview, Carlos Silva said that during this month Santa Cruz will have a charging station for electric vehicles, so that these first owners of electric vehicles will no longer need to charge in their own homes.
On the other hand, he announced that the city council is working with companies so that this municipality that wants to be “environmentally sustainable” also has charging points exclusively for “tuc-tuc” motorcycles. The Week with Inforpress
