Africa-Press – Cape verde. A pirogue with 46 survivors on board was found about 150 miles from the island of Sal. The occupants were rescued by a fishing vessel and are expected to arrive on the island of Sal this morning.

The information was advanced a few hours ago by the direction of the National Police, which says it has received the alert from a Spanish fishing boat, which will have found the vessel with its mouth open in the north of the island.

“Due to difficulties in towing the pirogue, the survivors were transferred to the said fishing boat and are on their way to Sal Island, where they should arrive tomorrow morning, around 11 am”, reads the statement.

All authorities have already been called in to provide humanitarian assistance upon arrival, as well as police and border control procedures.

The police also say that “according to information collected at the time of the rescue, at the beginning of the trip the pirogue had about 100 people on board”.
