Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Judiciary Police (PJ) will open an internal investigation to investigate complaints of alleged mistreatment of fishermen detained on that island, because of the alleged sale of hashish last week.
Following some public reports, through the media and social networks, that PJ inspectors, assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department of Sal, would have physically assaulted and tortured “certain suspects”, to “force them to hand over the drug”, the PJ issued a statement this afternoon to provide clarification.
In view of the “gravity of the facts reported and circulated”, the PJ says that the Department of Sal, during the operation “did not verify the facts” reported by some suspects.
However, they say, “it is in the interest of the Judiciary Police to know these complaints in depth to verify their authenticity”, so the National Directorate, “will open an internal investigation to establish the facts”, they clarify.

It is recalled that the Judiciary Police, through the Department of Criminal Investigation of Sal (DICS), carried out on the 8th and 10th of June, an operation in the context of combating drug trafficking, in the localities of Palmeira, Santa Maria and Hortelã. from above.
The operation, according to the PJ, culminated in the arrest in flagrante delicto of 11 male individuals, aged between 20 and 55 years old, and in the seizure of 12,098 kg of HAXIXE and the amount of one hundred and ten thousand escudos (110,000$00).
All detained individuals were handed over to the judiciary, for the purpose of the first judicial interrogation of the detained defendant and application of personal coercive measures.
The PJ even considers that these two operations were a “success” for “the tranquility of the people and social peace”.
The individuals in question are a group of fishermen who allegedly caught packages of hashish in the fishing nets, and then sold them.

Two of them, heard by Inforpress, complained of having suffered physical aggression by the PJ.
Accompanied at the time by the defense lawyer, Hernani Lima, one of them said that the PJ hit him on the head, having also injured one of his legs, while the other was slapped, clubbed on the soles of his feet, punched in the knee with a stake. of iron, as they report, to force them to hand over the product and the money resulting from the sale of the drug.
Now the PJ has decided to proceed with an internal investigation to establish the facts.
