PM participates in the "Our Ocean" conference in Greece

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, is in Greece to participate in the 9th Edition of the “Our Ocean” Conference, based in Athens, with the theme “An Ocean of Potential” which takes place from the 15th to the 17th of April.

This year, the conference will address six areas of action, promoting marine protected areas, promoting a sustainable blue economy, combating the climate crisis, supporting maritime safety, promoting sustainable fishing and combating marine pollution.

As host country, Greece will focus on topics such as green maritime transport, sustainable tourism in coastal areas, reducing marine plastic pollution and green transition in the Mediterranean.

According to a Government statement, Cape Verde will have the opportunity to present its vision on the Blue Economy, highlighting it as a fundamental pillar for the country’s economic development, with the National Maritime Strategy.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also present the reforms, measures and investments underway in the country, such as the recent approval of the Blue Economy Political Charter and the creation of the Maritime Special Economic Zone in São Vicente.

According to the same source, in addition to strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties, the Prime Minister’s visit to Greece aims to expand cooperation between the two countries and discuss regional and international issues of common interest.

The Cape Verdean delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo Soares, and the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente.
