Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister considered January 13 is a big “gain” for Cabo Verde, but stressed that it is necessary to “improve and care” for democracy to be increasingly a reference for all Cabo Verdeans.

Ulisses Correia e Silva spoke to journalists on Thursday on the sidelines of the special solemn session to celebrate the Freedom and Democracy Day, held annually on January 13 and which celebrates the 31st anniversary of the first free and democratic elections in Cabo Verde.

“It is a big gain for Cabo Verde on January 13, 1991, it represents Cabo Verde’s entry into the world of democracy of freedom and the democratic rule of law,” said the Head of Government, who said that today democracy is something natural.

According to him, over these 31 years, elections have been held with “tranquility” where the results have been accepted, there has been an “increasingly better” civic participation and the country has an “independent” media and make its way.

“Of course there are no perfect democracies, we are not a finished democracy, in no country there is this. We have threats, risks happening in today’s world, but we have the consistency that Cabo Verdean has take democracy as something important and a key asset for development. It is only to improve and care to be increasingly a reference democracy for Cabo Verdeans and for the world”, he pointed out.
