Africa-Press – Cape verde. Three fishermen were hospitalized today, in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, after an accident involving an open-mouthed fishing vessel, near Praia de Tope, around 5 am.
According to a police source, quoted by Inforpress, the artisanal fishing vessel hit a rock, and the three fishermen, who occupied the boat, were transferred to the emergency services of the Porto Novo Health Center, where they are under observation.
The news was also confirmed by volunteer firefighters, called to the scene of the accident, to provide assistance.
One of the fishermen got caught in the meshes of a net, but was rescued alive.
The exact state of health of the victims is currently unknown.
It is recalled that about a week ago, a fisherman was urgently transferred to São Vicente, after suffering an accident in a boat on the quay of Porto Novo.
The fisherman slipped and fractured a leg, having been urgently evacuated to the Baptista de Sousa central hospital, in Mindelo.
In February of this year, a collision between two semi-industrial fishing vessels from Porto Novo, in the channel between São Vicente and Santo Antão, also resulted in the death of a fisherman.
