Africa-Press – Cape verde. The United Nations System in Cape Verde considered, Saturday, “excellent” the Cape Verdean Youth Capital initiative, whose choice this year fell on the municipality of Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antão.
Adelaide Ribeiro, the representative of the joint UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA office, the United Nations agencies that provide technical and financial support for this project, said it was “an excellent initiative to increase the engagement and participation of young people in creating innovative local solutions, which can lead to transformative changes for local, national and global agendas”.
Events of this type can also lead to a “strong commitment by local authorities, with a view to not leaving any young person behind”, said Adelaide Ribeiro, who this Saturday attended the official launch of the Porto Novo, Cabo Verdean Youth Capital 2023 initiative.
It is also, in her view, an “important milestone for youth” in Santo Antão and in Cape Verde, in general, and which contributes to “encouraging the civic and political participation of young people” in the life of the Country.
