Africa-Press – Cape verde. The current municipal executive in Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, hopes to reach, by the end of the current term, in 2024, the goal of rehabilitating a thousand houses in the municipality, the mayor said today.
Porto Novo City Council promises to have one thousand houses rehabilitated by the end of the mandate Aníbal Fonseca, who was speaking during the session of the Municipal Assembly of Porto Novo, called to approve the municipal activity plan and budget for 2024, reported that since 2020 around 800 homes have been rehabilitated, with plans to cover even before the end of the mandate over 200 homes.
However, between 2017 and 2022, the Porto Novo municipality invested around 136 thousand contos in the restoration of 1,600 degraded homes throughout the municipality of Porto Novo, according to data released by the city council.
The municipality of Porto Novo has been the target of two housing rehabilitation programs, namely the “isdob compô bô casa” program (help you fix up your home), run by the council, and the rehabilitation and accessibility program, financed by the Government.
Porto Novo’s housing profile indicates that more than three thousand houses in the municipality are in “very dilapidated” conditions, with roofs about to collapse, putting people’s lives at risk.
The municipality says it has a municipal housing plan in preparation to respond to the challenges facing this sector, particularly in relation to replacing roofs in dilapidated houses. The Week with Inforpress
