Africa-Press – Cape verde. Farmers in some valleys of the municipality of Porto Novo have been looking for new ways to combat the Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) organism, which has been attacking tomato and cabbage crops.
In this time with climate less hot, the plague, detected in this municipality for decade and a half, has given the farmers some rest, but already from March it is predictable to attack the crops again, said to Inforpress the president of the Farmers Association of Ribeira Fria, one of the valleys most infested by theTuta absoluta (Meyrick).
“This organism attacks more in the hottest season. From March it is already likely to attack again”, explained Adilson Gomes, according to him the farmers have always been looking for “new ways” to combat the Tuta absoluta (Meyrick), which exists in areas such as Ribeira Fria, Ribeira dos Bodes, Alto Mira and Casa de Meio.
The organism in question has been controlled through “traps” since no more efficient ways of combating have yet been found, according to a technician from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in Porto Novo.
