Porto Novo: Fish market goes into operation “soon”, says the Mayor

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The City Hall assured this Sunday that the fish market, which is under construction in the city of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, begins to operate “soon”, now in the “procurement phase” for equipment.

The City Hall of Porto Novo, in a statement to which Inforpress had access, reassured to local fishing operators that the market works are “already in the final phase”, recognizing that this is “one of the most claimed infrastructure by fishermen and fishmongers” in this municipality.

“The fish market is one of the most claimed structures by fishermen and fishmongers, who will have better working conditions. The works are in the final phase and, at the moment, the procurement for equipment is taking place”, stressed the City Hall, believing that this space “will come into operation soon”.

Fishing operators, in particular fishmongers, which are operating on the streets, have called in recent years for the construction of the market, a project funded in 17 million escudos by Luxembourg cooperation under the Decentralisation Fund.
