Africa-Press – Cape verde. The municipality of Porto Novo, on the island of Santo Antão, hosts Carnival in Kindergartens on the 9th of February under the theme “Climate Change”.
According to a note from Porto Novo City Council, this activity will involve the participation of 410 pre-school children and aims above all to raise awareness among children and the community in general about the concept of climate change, as well as its causes and consequences. .
The same source highlighted that the initiative arose from the study “Learning for our planet” and based on educational programs that make reference to climate change and biodiversity.
“With this project, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Education, together with Luxembourg AID & Development and the City Council, aim to provide a welcoming and safe environment for children, promote moments of healthy coexistence and exchange between City Gardens and the Municipality’s Interior Gardens, providing the development of children’s imagination about environmental education, the needs of climate action, the causes of these changes and the effects on human health and the most vulnerable groups”, he points out.
The choice of the theme, according to the same source, will allow us to instill a new approach that includes environmental education from a young age, together with the municipality’s Preschool Education professionals and together with parents, family members and guardians.
The same source indicated that the event will be attended by the entire educational community and the population of the municipality of Porto Novo.
