Elisa Pinheiro was speaking about the approval, this Friday, of the municipal management instruments by the Porto Novo Assembly, with nine votes in favor from the PAICV political group, which supports the municipal chamber, and with eight votes against from the MpD bench (opposition).
“We are pleased with what the budget will provide. This budget reflects the commitments to the people of Porto Novo and is focused on the people,” stressed the mayor, who believes that this management tool will contribute to improving the living conditions of the population.
The budget, which presents a reduction of 6.8 percent (%) compared to 2024, is “committed to the financial sustainability of the municipality of Porto Novo, social inclusion and local development”, said the mayor.
Also in this ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of Porto Novo, the first of this term, the activity plan was approved, with favorable votes from the PAICV and abstention from the MpD.
The leader of the PAICV bench, João Oliveira, justified his group’s favorable vote on the two management instruments with the fact that they are “ambitious and reflect the needs of the citizens”.
The MpD spokesperson, Jorge Fonseca, explained that the party’s municipal elected representatives voted against the budget because it was “technically poorly prepared”, but intended to give the municipal council the “benefit of the doubt” regarding the activity plan, because it was “generic and did not propose goals”.
