Africa-Press – Cape verde. The potato harvest in Chã de Norte, in the countryside of the municipality of Porto Novo, in the island of Santo Antão, was, this year, below expectations, announced on Sunday the producers from this locality.
Farmers’ spokesman Ivanildo Santos explained that the weak potatoes production this year in Chã de Norte is due to bad weather has affected local agricultural activity, but also to the poor quality of seeds acquired by farmers.
Without specifying the amount of potato produced this year in Chã de Norte, this farmer recalled that this agricultural area is one of the main producers of this tuber because it is still free of millipede plague.
Also, in other agricultural areas still free of millipede plague, such as Martiene, the potatoes production was considered low by producers, who reported that the bad weather has affected this valley in January have had direct influence in this year production.
