Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Porto Novo municipality today updated data on the social inclusion income program, which currently covers 271 families in vulnerable situations in the municipality of Porto Novo.
A note from the city council, to which Inforpress had access, says that the president of Porto Novo City Council met, throughout this week, with the 271 families benefiting from social inclusion income to address various topics related to the fight against poverty in this municipality.
This program, promoted by the Ministry of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, aims to strengthen families’ capabilities in promoting income-generating activities and strengthening their skills in managing their resources.
The city council highlighted the importance of the social inclusion income program which, it assured, “has contributed to improving the living conditions” of beneficiary families.
According to official data from the National Statistics Institute, Porto Novo, with 16,052 inhabitants, has an unemployment rate of around 9.6 percent (%) and a poverty rate estimated at 51%.
However, 90.7% of Porto Novo residents have access to electricity, 78.1% have running water and 75.4% have bathrooms.
