Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Project to strengthen yam production in the Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, which was suspended due to constraints created by COVID-19, has already been resumed, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) said on Monday.

The Delegate of the MAA in Porto Novo, Joel Barros, confirmed to Inforpress that this project, estimated at 18 million escudos funded under the Program for the promotion of rural socio-economic activities (Poser), has already begun, with the construction of the reservoirs.

The project also consists, in addition to the construction of close to a dozen reservoirs, the installation of a post-harvest center, the creation of new plots and the installation of drip irrigation system.

The post-harvest center of Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, the third infrastructure of its kind to be installed in the municipality of Porto Novo, should be operationalized during 2022, according to the MAA expectations.
