Africa-Press – Cape verde. The static and permanent sale of fish is prohibited on the streets of Porto Novo, Santo Antão. With the start of operation of the Fish Market in the city, the sale can only be made in municipal markets, under penalty of imposing a fine, provided for in the Municipal Posture Code.

With the opening of the Fish Market in Porto Novo, the sale of fish on the city’s streets is prohibited.

The Municipal Council of the municipality points out that it is necessary to adapt the sale to good practices and the Municipal Posture Code in force, respecting article 117 nº1 which stipulates the sale of fish exclusively in municipal markets.

Anyone who disrespects the measure can be fined, as determined by article 120 of the Municipal Posture Code.

In Porto Novo, the fishing sector has a relevant importance in the local economy and contributes considerably to job creation and income generation, being the livelihood of many families.
