Porto Novo: Teachers took to the streets to say “enough” to the Ministry of Education
Leonardo Delgado told the press that today’s demonstration had the purpose of “putting an end to the Ministry of Education”, but also demanding a new salary scale and the restoration of purchasing power within the teaching class.
The teachers also complained about the subsidy for not reducing their working hours, according to Leonardo Delgado, for whom “this subsidy is greatly missed by teachers and their families”.
Teachers also complained about the teaching staff statutes which, in their opinion, are “strangling” the teaching class who are experiencing an affront.
The teachers also asked the Minister of Education to “help teachers” who are “distressed and angry”.
For Leonardo Delgado, if there is no “concrete response” from the Ministry of Education to the teachers’ demands, they are willing to go on strike and freeze students’ grades.
“The fight is just beginning” said the spokesperson for the protesters who, on Wednesday morning, walked along the main avenue of the city of Porto Novo and gathered in front of the delegation from the Ministry of Education.
