Portugal: Cape Verdeans see the “Awards Charme e Prestígio” as recognition for the work done

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Rolando Borges and Lito Spencer, two of the five Cape Verdeans who were awarded at the “Awards Charme e Prestígio: Migrante e Afrodescendentes 2023” say that the award represents recognition for the work they have done in Portugal.

Promoted by the Cultural Association for Development (CulturFACE), the award ceremony took place in Lisbon on Saturday night, the 25th, with Lito Spencer (Carlos Spencer Frederico), as president of the Maense Association in Portugal (AMP), receiving the award in the “Active Citizenship” category.

Rolando Borges, as project manager, promoter and president of the board of directors of the Cape Verde Diaspora Association Platform (PLTCVD), received the award in the “Community Intervention” category.

“The award is recognition of my career in working with the community (…). I know the value of my work and its impact on the community. Personally, I would like us to have another type of recognition and evaluation of the work we do”, said Rolando Borges today, speaking to Inforpress.

For him, if it were a financial prize, he could help with some project, but he stressed that what gives him satisfaction is the work he does on a daily basis, such as the creation of PLTCVD, in which you can feel the involvement of the community and people interested in the proposals presented.

“Unfortunately, in our community and on the ground, recognition is not easy, because many demand more. I will continue to make the daily effort to continue to be successful and improve our community every day”, she highlighted.

In turn, Lito Spencer confessed that he received the award “with some surprise”, as he understood that it was not yet time to “receive such distinction and recognition from the immigrant society” for his 25-year journey in associations.

“It is with a sense of increased responsibility on our part that we received the award, because it shows that people are watching us, evaluating us and appreciating what we have done. This award is thanks to the people who have always trusted me, who have always accompanied me in this life of association and people who are part of the management who don’t appear, but who have contributed a lot to some visibility of the work we have been doing”, he stated.

According to Lito Spencer, the last ten years at the helm of AMP have reflected on the lives of people, students, communities in Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe and benefited a little all the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), therefore , took the opportunity to thank everyone, especially “praising” their trust and the role of partners that has helped them grow.

In addition to Rolando Borges and Lito Spencer, three more Cape Verdeans were awarded in the “Awards Charme e Prestígio: Migrante e Afrodescendentes 2023”, with the sports coordinator António Correia, in the “Sports” category, the president of the Union of Parishes of Almada , Cova da Piedade, Pragal and Cacilhas, Maria Assis, in the “Politics” category, and company manager Jaqueline Silva, in the “Hygiene and Cleaning” category.
