Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean international boxer David Pina, bronze medalist in the African Championship Maputo’2022, travels today to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), to participate in the World Championship, which will be held from May 1 to 14.
Confirmation was made to Inforpress in Lisbon by the athlete himself, originally from Santa Cruz, the interior of the island of Santiago, but currently residing in Portugal and representing the Privilégio Boxing Club team from Odivelas, and he indicated that he will be accompanied by his coach Bruno de Carvalho, in the 51kg category representing Cape Verde.
In his first participation in a continental championship, the boxer, who has been competing in the 51-kilogram category since 2016 for the first time, said he counts on “strong support” from the Sports and Youth Institute (IDJ), which has been following his progress in representing Cape Verde.
In March, the Olympic grantee, who is seeking qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, won a gold medal at the Les Ceintures international tournament in the city of Saint-Nazaire, France, in the 54-kilogram category.
