Africa-Press – Cape verde. Portugal provided Cape Verde with around 6.7 tons of powdered milk to reinforce the supply of essential food products and to face the growing food insecurity caused by the drought, the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, the invasion of Ukraine by the Russia.

There are 672 bags of 10 kg, which will be distributed by Cape Verdean authorities to families in a more vulnerable situation, equivalent to 90 thousand liters of milk drink.

According to a press release, this support from Portuguese Cooperation comes in response to a request made by Cape Verde and results from the coordination of efforts by the governmental areas of Foreign Affairs (MNE), Agriculture and Food (MAA) and National Defense (MDN) from that country, which ensured transport by means of the hydrographic ship D. Carlos I, from the Portuguese Navy, within the scope of the Mar Aberto Mission.

According to the same source, the Portuguese government, through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and Food “will continue to mobilize financial resources for the purchase of food with a view to strengthening Cape Verde’s resilience in the face of the current context of food insecurity”.

book donation

Portugal took the opportunity to formalize the delivery of 18,744 books to the National Library Institute of Cape Verde, donated by the National Library of Portugal, under the Cooperation Protocol between both institutions with the objective of reinforcing reading, knowledge and good use of the Portuguese language.
