Portugal: Júnior Fernandes prepares for the Rowing World Cup but financial difficulties persist

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean Júnior Fernandes is preparing his participation in Portugal for the finals of the 2023 Beach Sprint World Rowing Championship, which takes place in Barletta (Italy), but the financial part is not yet fully resolved

Speaking to Inforpress, Júnior Fernandes, who has been in Portugal since the beginning of July training at the Lisbon Naval Association, said that the finals of the 2023 World Rowing Beach Sprint are scheduled for 29 September to 01 October, but that he wants to leave for Italy between 27 or 28 September, so that he can have time to “get to know the boats and water at the competition venue”.

“Financial conditions are one of the biggest obstacles and I still haven’t managed to solve this problem. I still don’t have any information on the subject [from the national authorities], because the cost includes airfare, boat hire for training, food, supplements, equipment, among other things,” he emphasised.

According to Júnior Fernandes, the preparation has gone “very well”, both physically and technically, with the support of two coaches, José Leitão who accompanies him more directly in his training, and Madalena Ferreira who accompanies him in international competitions.
