Africa-Press – Cape verde. Portuguese coach António Santos intends to leave his “mark” in Cape Verdean handball and points to the improvement of infrastructure as “essential” for the technical development of athletes.

António Santos, who is one of the mentors of the Tarrafal Cup International Handball Tournament, has been working with Grupo Desportivo Varandinha for six years to promote handball in Tarrafal de Santiago and Cabo Verde, helping to train players and coaches.

“I’m a collaborator interested in helping and I’m trying to leave a mark on Cape Verdean handball”, pointed out the ‘master coach’, which is the highest level of coaches at the International Handball Federation (IHF).

The coach, who last season in charge of IFC Torrense, of the Portuguese II League, and with passage through teams in the main division, considers Cape Verdean athletes with great abilities, “fundamentally physical”, but with big “gaps” in the technical aspects and tactical.
