Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Rural Socio-Economic Opportunities Promotion Program (Poser) made investments on the island of São Nicolau worth around 90 thousand contos, mainly in “structuring projects”, announced the program coordinator.

According to Jaime Pina, who was speaking at the presentation of the results of the program in the 2016/2022 period, the projects developed include the hydro-agricultural project in the town of Praia Branca and another that is currently being implemented and covers the towns of Queimadas and Canto de Fajã.

According to data from the program, from 2016 to 2022 nine programs in the hydro-agricultural sector were included on the island, generating around 441 jobs.

The Poser program has already generated 3,435 jobs and benefited 21,878 people, 2,431 in 55 rural territories on the seven islands where it is implemented, according to the same source.

Poser is financed by the Government of Cape Verde, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Spanish Trust Fund (FFE), in the amount of 36 million dollars.

The program’s development objective is to increase the income of agricultural families and fishing communities in a resilient way to climate change, through jobs generated, improving the well-being conditions of poor populations in the program’s intervention regions.

It is aimed at women, especially female heads of families, unemployed young people from rural communities and individuals and families identified by the communities, based on vulnerability criteria.
