The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, urged collective collaboration, highlighting the importance of overcoming persistent obstacles, stressing that only through cooperation will it be possible to implement improvements and guarantee a more promising future for the fishing community.
The appeal was made today in a message commemorating National Fishermen’s Day, in which he praised fishermen’s choice of profession, recognizing the fundamental role they play in the nation’s development.
“My deep gratitude and appreciation for each one of you, whose hard work contributes significantly to the development of this nation,” he wrote.
The Head of State also recognized the challenges faced by fishermen in their daily work and urged all stakeholders in the fisheries sector to join forces to overcome persistent obstacles.
In his message, President Neves emphasized the need to invest in infrastructure and fishing equipment, improve conditions for access to financing and value socio-community capital.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of guaranteeing adequate health and social security services for fishermen.
As Patron of the Ocean Decade Alliance, the President of the Republic reiterated his willingness to collaborate with national and international partners to promote the improvement of ocean literacy.
“The sea and all marine resources need to be protected, but only by knowing better will we be able to protect them”, he reinforced.
